What have we been up to since March 2020?
As we have gained some new clients through the Pandemic we thought we should give you a little insight into what we have been up to since March 2020 which will make sense of our Instagram gallery
Like all hospitality businesses we were just about to start our busiest season last year and had just had a very busy couple of months as we entered the first lockdown, along with our other company Chives we were suddenly faced with postponing weddings and events, initially to later in the year and then to 2021.
We formed Chives in 1998 and Green Herring in 2015, so to go from 100 miles an hour to nothing was not something we could entertain so what did we do.
Initially we decided to offer 3 course meals delivered hot to the door, then we switched to chilled meals, then knowing Graham’s pies are those of legend, we decided they were the way forward and for 4 months, we offered 4 to 5 different amazing pies every week, including the incredible Full English Breakfast Pie, The Aussie Pie, (for those that haven’t read the bio, Graham is Australian).
But what really got us out of bed each week and gives us purpose are the meals that we make for the Bright City Church foodbank, we had donated some meals before for their Winter Night Shelters so they were our first thought of whom we could reach out to. Since March we have made over 4,500 meals (we will keep updating) and we are now also preparing meals for the front line staff at the William Harvey Hospital.
As intimate weddings could resume, we paused the pies and we were able to cater for several beautiful weddings between August and December, including a BBQ for 30 and 3 course meals for 15 & 30 guests and the final wedding in December being a Hamper wedding for 15. This entailed canapes and 3 beautiful courses, all prepared, boxed and chilled, packed into a beautiful hamper along with wines and beers with simple finishing instructions for when they got home, we also provided a snack box for the journey.
What was so beautiful was that everyone said how perfect their weddings were, two of them are still planning on another celebration this year but all agreed they ‘Just wanted to be married’ and the celebrations were absolutely beautiful, personal and simply rooms full of love and smiles. We already have some weddings couples who have decided to opt for an intimate wedding in 2021 even when numbers do increase.
It was after receiving the amazing feedback from the hamper weddings that we decided to offer a NYE menu all prepared as for the wedding, it was a great success and our NYE clients requested that we did it again for Valentines as well.
